When working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with the challenges life throws our way, creating a safe and welcoming space is my first priority. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that therapy allows us to know ourselves better as well as view our important relationships in new ways.
As flawed humans, we have issues that may be wreaking havoc on our self-esteem as well as challenging our relationships. Our anxiety, inner critic, anger, and shame are examples of just some parts of us that we may struggle with. My hope is to help clients explore these many parts that make up the person they are and learn how to be a healthier, more fulfilling presence in their relationships.
In my therapy work, I see individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in working with couples and/or relationship issues, veterans, grief & loss, trauma, and anxiety.
I collaborate with each client to utilize an evidence-based therapy model that best fits their specific needs, goals, and personality. Some examples are Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, and Structural Family Therapy.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, having earned my Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services with an emphasis on Human Development & Family Studies at Penn State and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego.
I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional as well as a Certified Experiential Therapist-Level I.
When I am not seeing clients at Amy Tielemans & Associates, I also run an experiential couples therapy workshop for veterans four times a year in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
