The “systemic approach” is based on the many systems, or relationships, we are all part of…couples, family, school, work, community, church, etc.
Our relationships do not exist independently…they are all interconnected. Relationships we have in each of our systems may affect relationships in other systems.
For example: A parent has a bad day at work and comes home and yells at their child over a minor issue, or a child that has been bullied at school comes home and yells at their sibling.
Both situations cause dysfunction in the family relationship (home system), yet the cause is rooted in an outside system (work or school system). Understanding the relationships in all these systems, helps us understand and correct problems such as anger, anxiety, depression, etc.
