Amy Tielemans

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

Becoming a Marriage & Family Therapist was a second career for me. My experience working outside the home, running a business as a stay-at-home mom, and now a working empty-nester, provides me a wealth of perspective to draw from and understand real family situations.
People have always been drawn to me—even strangers opening up to me about their personal lives. Once I experienced therapy with a true Marriage and Family Therapist, I realized this is what I had been doing my whole life. My MFT family systems training brought all the pieces together for me.

MFT‘s systemic approach reflects my core beliefs about life and relationships. I believe that perfect blend of instinctual empathy and the structured, systemic process is the perfect balance for this career.

People remain drawn to me and my associates. My client base is founded almost entirely on referrals from clients, friends and doctors, something I take enormous pride in!

I grew up in Bucks County, am a Central Bucks West graduate, and currently live in Doylestown Borough. Al and I have been married over 30 years and after I managed his business while starting up this career, he now manages Amy Tielemans & Associates! If you call our office, you’ll be speaking to him.

We have two adult sons and a “grand dog”, Maple. I love being a mom, and my free time is spent visiting them in Washington, DC and New York City and spending time shopping and dining in Doylestown with our dog Willow.

As Past President of the Pennsylvania Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (PAMFT), I advocated for, and was integral in passing laws for consumer protection against untrained and unlicensed counseling, and codified the scope of practice and standards for LMFTs and other mental health disciplines. Currently, I serve as the PAMFT Legislative Chair where I advocate in the State Legislature for Telehealth, license portability, Mental Health in Schools, the creation of an Associates MFT license and the inclusion of LMFTs in both Medicare and Medicaid to increase the access to mental health treatment here in Pennsylvania.  I am a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I have served on the AAMFT Ethics Committee and chaired that committee in 2022. Currently, I serve on the AAMFT Judicial Committee.

I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Locally, I was an active member, of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, Chairing the Parenting and Family Committee as well as participating in the CBCC Women in Business, and Government Affairs Committees. It is always important to me to have an avenue to support our local organizations through volunteer activities and community presentations and conversations.

As an AAMFT Approved supervisor, I truly enjoy raising new therapists. I Appreciated the opportunity to teach Law and Ethics as an Adjunct Professor in the Master’s Couple and Family Therapy Program at Drexel University and continue to keep engaged with next generation of MFTs through individual supervision and presentations to newly graduated and licensed MFTs.

I earned a BS in Marketing from Jefferson University, MBA from St. Joseph’s University and MA in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Counseling Psychology from LaSalle University.
